Nakia Winfield, LMSW

Nakia is unapologetically black, queer, fat & brilliant. She analyzes power dynamics in social systems through an antioppressive lens. Nakia has been an HR professional at Apple Inc, a policy analyst for the Texas State House of Representatives, a Resource Trainer for the People’s Institute for Survival & Beyond, and a catalyst guiding the Austin Police Department through the Equity Tool- a community created tool and process for transparency & accountability. She has a BS in psychology, and a MSSW in political social work. Nakia kayaks on Belle Isle and makes culinary delights in her spare time. She brings all of these experiences and more to bear in her facilitation and liberatory practices.

Nakia uses ‘the royal we’ at The Growing Edge because she almost always prefers to partner with others in her systems change work. It is deeply important to Nakia to embody her principles and that includes learning from and with others.

Nakia enjoys the liminal spaces of possibility and reframing and would probably love to accompany you or your network’s journey of self discovery.
